This blog shows the Arcade Fire project created by the “Illustration B” students of professor Philip Stanton at the “Eina School of Design and Art” located in Barcelona, Spain.
This is a design and illustration project that simulates the creation of a promotional object, part of an advertising campaign to promote the world tour of the new album of Arcade Fire, "Neon Bible".
The project was divided in two parts:
1- Work process in the classroom:
- First day: Two sessions in class (listening to Neon Bible)
1- Interior: The students listened to the album loud without knowing the name of group or any other information. They were then asked to create at least two images in any technique witch visually expressed their reactions to the music.
2- Exterior: As a group we went out of the classroom and into a nearby forest, eventually finding a clear area. The students were then asked to illustrate the lyrics and / or title of at least one of the songs of Neon Bible. At the end of the session each student brought back one found object from the forest which interested them.
Them were then allowed to incorporate this object or a representation of the object into their works.
- Second day: In the classroom while listening to Funeral the students were asked to hand create at least 2 songs developing the concepts they had decided upon. These images needed to incorporate at least 2 different techniques.
In the second part pf the class the students worked in teams of two, analysing and critiquing each others concepts and sketches.
2 - Realization process of final artwork:
- Investigate videos and information about Arcade Fire on the Internet.
- Write a report about your project that includes minimum the following information: target public, where the action will take place, amounts and possible materials, desired results, estimated costs of production,
fees for your creativity and monitoring of project production.
The technical resources were completely open.
